Years after I rented out my house to friends they want to do something with my left behind K-Horn Bass bins occupying space in the corners. I took an impedance sweep with Dayton woofer tester. Doesn't look like typical K-horn plot . (the bins are not airtight against the wall as yet )
At disposal is a combo of 808a/511B symbiotic altec 501-8z crossover . I could use HF crossover section and make 12dB filter for bass bins. Or, try EV Georgian approach with 1829/PC100 reentry horn and add a tweeter with EV X336 crossover. Both solutions seem very compromised but my friends are not willing to spend any money so they will have to live with either.

Best measure the space you have available as the Altec may well be wider than the K33 is and it may not fit inside.

Moray ,
I have Altecs in a place of K-33 for years now.To me they work much better than K-33 but they don't make a LF boom like K-33 tend to do and consequently may be perceived slightly bass shy compared to K-33. K-Horn is after all a 40Hz midbass horn.. I posted the impedance plot of K-Horn with altecs just as an illustration. The one with K-33 looks quite a bit more violent.

I was thinking that some of the Altec are 16" dia. and concerned about them fitting. Which model are you using? I have seen simulations for a 515 (I think)that looked good in a Khorn. Thanks for posting.

The Altec woofers are only a size problem in the LaScala (or Cornwall).

I put old 803A there , hard suspension Fs=40Hz and 12 Ohm impedance.Great sounding unit but my examples were old and too fragile to use in direct radiator application.I remember that I was intrigued by Vitavox version of K Horn which supposedly sounded better than original Klipschorn and used expensive K15/40 alnico beast in two-way with 300hz horn on the top crossed at 500hz to S2 CD.

Dennis: thanks, do you know if an Altec can squeeze one into a Belle? The triangular dog house should provide a little more space for the speaker basket than there is in the LaScala. A Peavery FH1 would likely be a fit as well.

Sorry, not sure about the Belle.

The motor board is wider than the LaScala, but I have never tried it.

A PPSL quad 8 plenum does fit though.

That's good. Fits better than any fifteen I bet. So worth checking on a Belle though. Thank you for the information.

Wondering if any Altecs would fit in a Cornwall 1 box and whether it would be better than Bobby Crites woofers?
