Hello.
I want to build my own speakers(?!!!)and I am looking for blue prints that incorporate horns speaker/drivers.Hence the question: does anyone knows where I could buy those?
Note: I have been doing wood work for a long time and am pretty good at it , with all the necessary tools.
All suggestions, ideas and tips are greatly appreciated.
Regards.

There are many speaker plans available - which speakers do you want to build?
Karlson?
Klipsch K-Horns - or a varriant?
VOT
Other Horns?
Lowther/fostex?
Linkwitz?

Some designs are free, others at a fee-
search this forum and you will get some links-
or search the web-

Madisound and Parts Express- as well as many others have KITS
Happy Listening

rockanroller,

Woodworking can be a nice rewarding hobby !!!! Depending on sonic expectations / room size and budget, horns are the way to go IMHO. Give John Inlow's site a look for horns and some plans--lots of info.

Also check out DIY Sound Group for horns and wave guides, US Speakers.com and Parts express for drivers along with Great Plains Audio ( Altec ) drivers.

See link below, from Pete Millett's wonderful "Tube Books Online" resource: www.tubebooks.org

There are tons of resources (plans) online at various sites. You might want to try googling a bit.

all the best,

Why not do a simple two-way ALTEC A7-800 ? Plans for the early 825, or later 828 enclosures are on WWW. Its HARD to beat Altec woofers, 416 or 515B, and use an 802 on top. KISS rules.

Ohh, be sure to reinforce the curved horn flares, over the stock implementation. Lots of discussion on line, on how to do that.

Good luck, have fun.

Jeff

Agree with Jeff on this one. Love the Altec VOTT family. Lots of plans out there but a fellow in Australia has a really cool modern take on this. I could probably hunt down his contact info upon further interest.

For a beginner... a scoop cabinet for a Dual Concentric Tannoy would be easy and sound wonderful.

Do you have access to someone with CDC capability? Could make your life very easy.

Other info could help... like a few goals, room size, music preference, existing amps? etc..

thanks for the link. (nt), posted on July 23, 2015 at 09:06:49

How much floor space do you have ie how big is your room? That and budget will help provide some direction.

Check out Bill Fitzmaurice's horn speaker plans. I ordered his plans for the HT Tuba corner horn subwoofer cabinets. The plans are very complete and professionally done. I am highly pleased with the cabinets built from the plans.

Need to define your requirements more precisely.
Live sound-line arrays vs point source how big a Gig
Home use- Home theater, HiFi, how big a room
how much to spend, what size "horns", driving power available
Plenty of plans, sources but many out dated
Best to build to your specific needs.

First, thank you to all that have given me some leads and answers!
Two, here are some details:
-room is about 18x12x15 cathedral ceiling.
-two-combo preamp-amp is Yamaha C-60/M-60 com pletely rebuilt by master tech /Yamaha certified: all new caps, new soldering, etc...160 W per channel at 8 ohms.
-goal is music listening mostly /classic rock/symphonies/blues;
- budget is about $ 3000 dollars
- I would like a combo horn treble and mids, cone woofer, example Klipsch forte.
Thank you kindly.

I have owned Klipsch Cornwall I, Klipschorn and Altec Model 19s. I think you would enjoy Model 19s. You could buy a working pair and refinish the cabinets, buy a working pair and use the cabinets as plans for new ones or buy new or used drivers and build from plans you could begin with here:

Good luck!

Wood work is first step, finding the parts and putting together the electronics is another. Lot's of fun with requisite pain and agony. ;-)

Room size requirements are easily met with even non horn speakers but you will lack the powerful high transient clear low distortion effect of horns. Klipsch Forte CORNER placed in your room will amply meet all your requirements including financial even w/o subs. No need for sawdust!

Luck

+1 for the PI Cornerhorns provided you have room and corners for them.

Or, buy some used Klipsch Cornwall's or Forte's and do a full restoration along with Crites tweeter and crossovers.

Or, just buy the Crites CS-1.5 project http://www.critesspeakers.com/crites-cs-1-speaker-project.html

Or, the Crites Cornscala (which is what I would have if I had the room but NO CAN DO (WAF problem).

All the best:)

These Don't work with a Tannoy.
At least not ones I've heard.
Poor sounds is a charitable descriptor IMO.
One would do FAR better with a Fred Flintstone basic door sized OB with the Tannoy in the middle.. True.
