 Found some old photos of my early HORN linear array prototype expériments. Very powerfull....4 acted as a point source with >116dB/W. In closed position cab only measured 16"H x 22"W X 24"D but opens at show time to better than 5 feet wide. Freq response 70 and up with -6dB @ 90 degrees. Weight about 55lbs with ferrite magnets. The only Horn linear array that meets all of the 5 wavefront sculpture criteria of Dr Christian Heil

 They are visually impressive, powerful looking. How did they sound?

 Cost me almost next to nothing to build but blew away my Audiophile stuff.... sounds like electrostatics with "Balls". A 21" bass driver in a big cab can hardly keep up with just one cab. But horn design is not length or mouth size compromised courtesy of the folded wings the expandable horn design. Very happy with this design. I use this expandable horn concept in all my designs including horn subs.

 I am trying my best to make sense of this. How many and what type of drivers does this contraption contain ?

Perhaps you could be so kind as to include a bit more detail on the configuration ?

 Sorry I'm not trying to be difficult but I'm really don't understand what type or size drivers are horn loaded nor do I understand precisely where these loadings are taking place??? At present given these photos and the brief description you provided, I'd say this is simply a very interesting looking audio speaker conglomeration, that I'd be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt about it sounding better than your audiophile speakers.

Don't misunderstand me. I have a good idea of what I believe is happening. But that's only confirmed if you'd just take the time to explain more about what's exactly taking place and where the drivers are loading to the horns in your speaker design! That information along with some photos or drawings that show what your explaining ---{or photos of these speakers being built}--- would take what's now just an audio speaker conglomeration and change it into a very unique, innovative and proprietary high sensitivity, horn speaker design!

This is my proprietary design where there are TWO 10 inch drivers each horn loaded into its own 54" length horn designed for a low corner of 75Hz. A curved reflector permits compacting this to a depth of 24" and still passes horn loaded freq up to close to 3KHz. The output of the two horns converge anteriorly to a 70" wide x 16" height mouth. In the middle between the two butt cheeks there is a proprietary designed diffraction horn which being about 12" long appropiately loads TWO high ouput 112dB/W compression drivers crossed over about 2.2KHz. That much HF output is necessary to keep up with the 2-10" horn loaded drivers!. This being a linear array design having cabs above and below puts the cabs in 1/2 boundary space. Using 4 cabs gives a mouth size of 70" X 64" and better than 116dB/W output. From a distance it acts as a point source and avoids the few criticisms made against line arrays yet it avoids the all in your face output as the output can be split and directed as needed as in a linear array. Although I designed this for linear array use I have found it very useful for a home system as just one cabinet can provide a stereo effect by hooking up Right and Left channels to the appropiate horn of the 10" driver and comp driver. As far as quality of sound it depends on the quality of drivers and amps but the benefits of horn loading are all there. It can make inexpensive drivers sound very good. And yes I have had all kinds of speakers including ribbons electrostatics and horns and all kinds of amps even tube SE 45, SE RCA 845 no power JFET yet.

With horn cabs the vertical exit angle of the MR horns being too much causes MR interference patterns when cabs are stacked as in linear arrays. In this design that has been avoided. Of course HF interference patterns is avoided by the design of the HF horn and it´s very small exit angles. The directionality of horns enable near field Low Freq control to be maintained using much shorter columns. You would need 64 direct radiation linear array cabs with typical output of 98dB/W to match 116dB/W. I am very happy with this 55 pound inexpensive compact cab. The JBL Vertec, L Acoustics require 2x15", 4x6", 3 comp drivers 350 lb cabs and thousands of dollars to do less.
