Hi Guys!

A local guy is parting out a 90s theater speaker systems with the dual JBL 2226H woofer. Should a buyer be concerned about buying such speakers that have been run 12 hours a day for 20 years? Would parameters shift or degrade?

Thanks,

Scott

Drivers get better with age, as the suspension softens and Fs keeps going lower. So long as the surrounds are OK and the magnets haven't weakened they should be fine.

I have seen cones that were damaged from rock concert applications, but they can be replaced if necessary. Not cheaply of course!

That is very interesting. I did not know that.

Theater gear vintage or new is where the fun stuff is IMO.. Just look at the new Klipsch horn loaded sub. Or the theater JBL horns... Fun stuff.
High sensitivity, wide dynamic range, low distortion, and smooth frequency response. Pwk

Similarly I have a JBL 2226 that was used by a cat as a scratching post (before I bought it). The cone was pretty tough and only perforated in a couple spots. I sparingly glued up each spot and it seems to be fine.
