Which differences between the Altec horns mantaray 594 and 594a ?

I have a pair of Altec drivers 288c(16 ohm) with 3 screws and I would like to know if I can use the 594 either or 594a or both.
thanks

Either, the difference is the material the horn is made from.

Later ones are injection molded from Noryl (a blend of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and polystyrene (PS) ), earlier ones are fiberglass.

Later ones will also have the EV four-bolt pattern in addition to the three-bolt Altec pattern.

The 288C will require 6dB/oct boost above about 4Khz, and will drop like a rock above about 12.8Khz or so. I have used the 288C on the MR564II for PA and it sounded quite good.

Which one do you suggest to look for the Altec 288c ?
the Mantaray MRII594 (fiberglass) or MRII594a (Noryl)? and Why?
thanks

I have a Noryl MR594II, but I have not listened to it. It has a corner broken off, they don't like being dropped.

With the larger FG ones I put about 2" of that rigid expanding foam on the backside, it damps them and adds rigidity.

I don't see a lot of the Noryl ones for sale.

another difference is the mouth mounting flange. The a's have a flange for mounting on a flat surface whereas the earlier units mount into a beveled surface.
