There are too many good piano recordings on SACD, if good looking babe pianists are not a mandatory requirements then some of my all time favorites include Rachmaninov on SACD performed by Sudbin on BIS, the second sonata is magnificent, Volodos in Vienna is another good one as is a Schubert album by the same pianist, Mussorgsky pictures performed by Freddy Kempf on BIS is another demo quality SACD, and the list goes on.

I agree with you in general about Sudbin, Volodos, and Freddy Kempf, posted on November 10, 2016 at 13:23:25

However, Jerome may not be enthusiastic about the Sudbin and Kempf recordings on BIS, since the masters are PCM and I thought he was a "pure" SACD/DSD fan. (?)

Regarding "good looking babe pianists", I'm not sure that I've heard any on SACD that I'd recommend (although I could be forgetting some) - there are a couple of possibilities, but I haven't heard the actual albums and thus can't recommend them.

If DSD is important then I would recommend 3 separate SACD's on Turtle label, music of Liszt, the entire Annees de Pelerinage performed by Yoram Ish-Hurwitz, both the performance and the sound are superb. I am a Liszt junkie and this recording is a must have even if you do not like Liszt.

Thanks - I'm a Liszt Junkie too and I haven't heard those Yoram Ish-Hurwitz recordings [nt] ;-), posted on November 10, 2016 at 18:46:59

Speaking of Liszt, I've been blown away by Kirill Gerstein's Transcendental Etudes on the Myrios label, posted on November 12, 2016 at 12:19:04

Got it as a DSD download via Native DSD Music. The performances are wonderfully volatile yet sensitive ("titanic" is how the AudiophileAudition reviewer described them) and the recorded sound might be some of the best I've heard--very natural, realistic, and visceral.

Thanks, Russell - I shoujld hear Gerstein too - I'm behind on my Liszt TE's [nt], posted on November 12, 2016 at 18:17:24

Some of the recordings on "Steinway & Sons" are just superb.
They are on Tidal.

I'll bet most SACDs are from PCM recordings.
They still sound good ( if it's good recording to start with).
