Just the first BOG show from 12/31/69, which is being remixed from the original 8 track multi tracks. Sounds incredible. It will be available as an SACD, a hirez download, Vinyl, and CD. Also the People Hell And Angels compilation as well. The BOG release is far more exciting. Disclaimer: I am working on these projects.

There are always projects being discussed. But to be honest there really is not much left that is commercially viable.

They have been talking for a long, long time about a box set with all four BOG shows plus rehearsals. Dagger Records, pretty much released everything in the vaults that was of borderline releasable quality.

Much Thanks! Isaak

I could live with "Are you Experienced?" on SACD.

I have pre ordered both SACD releases. I am guessing if these sell well we might see a reissue of the three original releases on SACD? I still have my original vinyl LP's.

Isaac, is the vinyl cut from a digital file?

Hi Tullman.

Yes, the vinyl in the end was mastered from a digital mixdown.

This release, which includes the entire first show form 12/31/69 was mixed down to several flavors of hirez digital from the original 8 track one inch multitrack tape recorded by Eddie Kramer. An all analog vinyl mastering would have required a mixdown to tape. I think an attempt was made to this but there were some technical issues.

The end result is quite stunning. To me the DSD sounds the best.

Hi Isaak, thanks for the response. Several flavors of hi-res? So, the vinyl was cut from 24/96, 24/192, or DSD?

Also, was this same processed used for the "Cry of Love" and "Rainbow Bridge" vinyl, which both sound great.

Tullman:

The vinyl was ultimately cut from 24/192 and DSD, final decision made with test pressings. DSD was my vote. It sounded the most analog. Downloads will be available as well through all vendors.

Cry Of Love and Rainbow Bridge are AAA mastering my friend. That is because the ORIGINAL analog master mixdown reels were in great shape. No remixes were done.

With the Machine Gun release, there was no "master tape". Just multitrack.

The only previous mixes down from the 4 shows were the tracks originally chosen for the original BOG release.

It is also interesting to note that all 4 BOG shows, in their entirety have been available for decades as "unofficial" releases in very decent quality. That is because all 4 shows were recorded at 15 ips 2 track as back up.

This is what I thought about COL and RBB, but internet BS was telling me otherwise. That really clears things up for me. Thanks you very much.

Mr Garvey this is tremendous news. Do you know if there is any chance we'll see the first three Hendrix albums available as hi-res downloads?

I can tell you for sure, all the albums released in Hendrix's lifetime were archived to 24 bit digital. Whether they will be released for sale is totally up to the Hendrix estate.

Here is a tidbit..the AYE, Axis, and Electric Ladyland were all mastered from the original master tapes in 2008 by Bernie Grundman for the vinyl releases. And you can find them for between 12 and 20 bucks on Amazon. People just assume those were AAD vinyl masters. But they are AAA in fact.

Didn't George Marino master the 2008 version if Axis only that year? I remember Marino also did the 2010 versions of the first three titles.

Yes, sorry, I meant George Marino for the first three titles, not Bernie.

Isaak,

I am having a real difficult time with a member on the Steve Hoffman Forum who insists the latest vinyl releases of Rainbow Bridge and Cry of Love are digital. I did reference you as stating otherwise. He just told me, he doesn't know you and you are lying. Is there any way of definitely proving that these titles are indeed AAA?

Thanks

Honestly, to the best of my knowledge, Bernie did those all analog. The tapes were in fine condition, having not been used for decades. Everybody is an expert. Perhaps he should ask Michael Fremer who in his write up states unequivocally there is no digital step.

Fantja,

I have listened to the disc three times since receiving it. You put it on and the next thing you know you are seated there with the sold out audience listening to them play. For an 1970 analog tape source this disc sounds very good. The background is quiet on the SACD allowing the subtle details to come through. You can hear the audience shouting out requests in the ambiance of the theater! To me that is amazing fidelity.

There have been complaints on other sites about the "bass" reproduction. On my system the bass is clearly defined and audible. Maybe some are expecting a mid bass "bump" in the low end? Vocal are clean and clear, guitar slight of center as it would be at the concert. Very dynamic disc which highlights Buddy Miles "gut bucket" style of playing the drums. You can hear the snap in the drum set. I do hope that the other three shows get released. For comparison I listened to the two BOG tracks on West Coast Seattle Boy CD box set last night. It has more audible noise, and is mixed a bit hotter than Machine Gun live at the Fillmore. There is a definite improvement on the SACD which also has a CD layer for those without SACD players. From the official site. The songs and which discs have them.

great pics! Maybe this will be the vehicle that will launch additional JH on SACD titles. I feel we music lovers should receive those (3) core JH Experience albums. At the very least, "Are you Experienced" would be so nice.

It is interesting that the powers that be started w/ the fillmore concert?
JH was pretty much towards the end of his short life in 1970.
