Does anyone know where you can download Aja in 24 bit or is there a converter for 16 to 24 bit. Thank you

I am aware of 24 bit/96kHz versons of Gaucho and Two Against Nature but not Aja.

Many software media players have provision for digital processing including upsampling. If you identify yours perhaps an inmate who has familiarity with it will be able to give you a precise answer. Some hardware is also able to convert sample rate and word length e.g. dCS.

Any particular reason for wanting 24 bit as against any other bit depth? When converting from, say, 16 bit, you are of course not adding any information merely padding the word length with 8 digital zeros.

Thank you for your reply, I have found it to be true as well only gaucho and two against nature seem to be availible I do have other Steely dan in 16 bit ( cant seem to get enough steeely dan lately) I have to manually change the bit rate on my sound card if I am listening to 16 bit with sound card set for 24,and I do notice slight distortion if I dont. this requires me to shut down music bee to do so, then I can change bit rate on sound card. so switching CD quality to High rez in my library or vis versa is a challenge.

That's interesting. Although I have not heard before of anyone experiencing distortion when playing 16 bit files through 24 bit converters it does appear to be the case that some devices do sound better when fed with files of the optimum word length. Dr. Paul Miller, the editor of Hi Fi News in the UK, has written on this.

As I have said I think the solution to your difficulty could lie in the DSP functions of replay software. Many replay programs e.g. JRiver MC do have upsampling algorithms available and I expect that they may work in both word depth and sampling frequency domains. However I do not find that this facility is available in MusicBee. Your library would stay as is as the DSP only affects the file being processsed at the time of replay. In my own case I upsample all files to 24 bit on the fly (leaving the sample frequency rate unchanged by choice) but I do this in my hardware.

I guess that a more far reaching solution would be to change your sound card to something that does not give you this problem, either another board or an external DAC.

Also, don't forget "Everything Must Go". Not their best, but 24/96. nt, posted on July 9, 2016 at 17:42:49

PAR, sorry for the lag Ive been on vacation.

Thank you so much for your help, during holiday I had some time to think about what you said and I remembered a software option on my sound card that allowed for direct input via the toslink. I've turned that on and disabled the other option I was using. Holy Hell it sounds fantastic, so what I am doing now I think, is sending a digital signal straight off the mother board via the toslink to the DAC in my amp. Now the transition from 16bit to 24bit dosent seem to any distortion as it did before also headroom and bass is much better. Thanks again
