 Is SACD analog rca output only, or does it play via a players HDMI output as well?

 A universal player like Oppo can output DSD via HDMI. You have the option to select either PCM or DSD via HDMI.

 As long as the universal player is HDMI version 1.2 or later, it can output DSD via HDMI. Some of the older ones (e.g. Marantz DV9600 are HDMI 1.1 and cannot).

 The SACD players I had seen wouldn't do digital out for SACD. I had assumed that it was a copyright issue. It's not like Sony has never done that before.

 Balanced players can provide output over XLR as well.

 I think you were thinking the players don't do digital out of SACD over *S/PDIF*. The Oppos don't do that either, just DSD (or converted to LPCM) over HDMI.

[Some older Oppo players will only do DSD->LPCM over HDMI.]

 .The Sony 5400ES sounds best when used with the Sony STR-DA5400ES (UK version with HATS) for lowest jitter, has anyone on this Forum apart from myself heard the excellent mch SQ that betters any other player I have auditioned including very expensive ones.
