Jeff Buckley's Grace is one of my favorite albums. I noticed that Pono has released a 24/192 version of the album. I have not been able to find any information regarding the source material used or any other information regarding this release. Is any one here familiar with this release?

Not familiar with the release, but you can be assured it's the only 24/192 release you will see of this album. As consumers we are in a take it or leave it situation. I wouldn't wait for the DSD release. I say it's your favorite albums that are the ones worth buying in hi-res.

In the absence of purchasing it or information about the mastering process, etc. I have no way of knowing whether it improves upon the Legacy Edition. I recall reading posts from members who are much more technically knowledgable than I am about how many high resolution releases are simply upsampled from the redbook version. I can do this with my DAC or software. In short, I do not want to be ripped off. Do you men disagree?

Nobody wants to be ripped off. That's one reason I'm posting these tests, but I'm not saving anybody any money, because I haven't found an upsampled fake yet. I have been pointed to one song on one album that was an upsampled fake, but that was on an album that was recorded over six years in several different places by a guy who could be elected The Slacker King. He has my vote anyway.

To me that makes your Jeff Buckley album a decent bet.

I won't even go into how the whole high-end thing is one big gamble with your money. Sending some internet unknown a couple of thousand bucks for a tube amp that you hope sounds better than the one you have.

Here are some of my tips on buying from Pono. The Grace album you want must have just been released, because they are asking top dollar for it, $25. I also notice they are offering it in 24/192 and 24/96. They say they have gone to a policy of only selling the highest res of any album offered, but I think you see this on new releases, because they ask the premium price. I think you will see the 24/96 version of this Buckley album taken down after a while.

So let's take Graceland for an example. It was released maybe two months ago in 24/96 for $22. I said no way, they will drop the price soon. Last week it was the featured album of the week, and was on sale for $13. Yoink.

Pono just added the new Elvis Costello releases this week, and two are on sale for $16. Also yoinked. I will give it to Pono, they always have 20 or 30 albums on sale, and they rotate the weekly. That's more money than I got.

Just wait six weeks on your Buckley album, and in that time save $17 for your next high end audio adventure.

You can also find deals at Acoustic Sounds by stalking and on holidays.

One last tip. Always spend the extra three dollars to get the 24/192. It gets you where you want to go.

I very much appreciate your advise and thank you for taking the time and effort to give it. I read your comments about the tests you do on various high resolution music releases and based upon your analysis of Yes' Fragile, another one of my favorites, that will be one of my next music purchases. Ok, I will wait for it to go on sale; the album was released decades ago so I can wait a bit longer to get a better sounding digital version.
