I'm not an expert on how this album should sound. Added it very late, and just one copy. These albums are an interesting mix of crystal clear detail, alternating with some grungy ass music. I'm not sure I've ever heard that scenario before.

This is why I'm not an early adopter. The photo in the metadata for all the songs is this cover for TMWSTW. Now I gotta fix it.

These are some nice looking 24/192 transfers. Just what you would want to see I imagine.

I have multiple LP and CD versions of this. I can say that the Mercury LP version, that only came with the "cartoon" cover, sounded like crap. And yet, it is still probably my favorite Bowie album (Ziggy second fave) and I still listen to that 40+ y.o. LP. I recommend the 1990 Rykodisc CD, least that's the CD (rips) I listen to most these days, I don't find the subsequent Virgin one I have to be as full-sounding.

IOW, it *is* a grungy heavy album, unlike anything else he recorded under his own name...enjoy! I wonder if this happened around the time he was mixing Raw Power (for The Stooges)...somebody here will know.

I agree the RYKOs do sound better, and I seem to remember them being louder than the Virgin release, but don't hold me to that. I've found these new 2015 remasters have superb dynamic range. It makes such a difference, and doubly so with Bowie.

Since we're talking about grunge, :) You know how they say that digital has better bass than vinyl? So far I have found that to be true. Well on the first two albums Tony Visconti the producer also plays the bass guitar. On some of the songs on the first two albums he really turns up the bass, and it is very forward in the music. Well I use folded W bass horns, and jeez it sounds like some bassist is laying down some grungy bass riffs right in your living room. Hard. I like it. In fact it kind of blew me away when it hit me. It's not just me, Visconti was not playing around.

Two of the albums are 2013 remasters.
