Hi. Has anyone tried downloading redbook CD (PCM 16/44) to an SD card and playing it through DA-3000 using its internal DAC? How's the sound quality? Thanks
Serge

After reading your post, I put some CD rips onto a USB flash drive and played them in my DA-3000. They sound okay. They probably sound as good as CD rips can sound. I particularly liked the sound of cymbals, which reminded me more of analog than digital.
I've been using my DA-3000 for playing DSD files from a USB flash drive and DSD files sound very good on the DA-3000. I wouldn't call it a particularly convenient music server, though. It's designed to be a recording device rather than a playback device. However, I think it has a pretty good DAC. I've listened only through its balanced out outputs, though.
Good luck, John Elison

This is what I needed to know - Tascam didn't forget the lowly redbook as I don't have any hi-rez.

I am still undecided on using a PC/USB DAC combo as a source and the only other game in town that approaches PC's display convenience is using TV screen + DVD player the way you do it with Oppo. But, I wanted to try Burr Brown DAC and the SD card approach for some time. I saw a video of DA-3000‘s playback operation. It's ok. It’s not perfect, but should be more convinient than my CD player.

Yes, it's definitely more convenient than a CD player. It could be even better if the remote control offered some additional functions so you could browse and select different albums remotely. You have to get up and press buttons on the DA-3000 in order to switch to a different file folder containing a different album. It might also be nice to have shuffle play, too. It does allow you make a playlist, but I haven't learned that feature, yet. I really need to learn more of its features. I got to the point where I could plug in a USB flash drive and listen to music and I stopped learning after that. ;-)
It definitely sounds good, though. I often think it sounds better than my Oppo BDP-105D. At any rate, it sounds different with tighter bass and greater clarity yet still very smooth in the highs. Lately, I've been going back-and-forth between the TASCAM and the Oppo. Sometimes I like the Oppo better and sometimes I like the TASCAM better. Such is life!
Best regards, John Elison

They reused the remote from DR-40 recorder for some reason. To get it to work with DR-40, firmware fix needs to be downloaded. DA-3000 may require the same. Don’t know why they cheapened out on the remote. All of their CD players offer full function remotes while costing 1/3‘rd of DA-3000. CD-200SB remote has keys to move up and down folder tree. Maybe it can be used with DA-3000 as well.
I glanced through DA-3000‘s manual. If I understood correctly, there are 2 modes for each key on the remote: one for playback/recording with functions such as play, stop, rewind, etc and the other to navigate the folder structure. Same thing can be done via USB keyboard plugged into front panel, methinks.
