The new ICE magazine reports that, later this month, "Two Against Nature" will be out on (gasp) DVD-A. The end of the world is near!

I've got the lava lamp! Seriously, judging from the ICE listings, it looks like the non-Sony labels are putting on an all-out push for DVD-A releases (e.g., Joni Mitchell). Too bad nobody's marketed a decent player yet.
Can't we all just get along?

Are DVD-A's hybrid also?, posted on November 29, 2000 at 13:38:52

I completely lost interest in DVD-Audio and know little about it.

My question is, are the DVD-A software hybrid(like DSD) where they will still play in old redbook mowchines?

Thx,
Kenreau

this was one major point of the SACD vs. DVD-A debate. Score one for Sony.

Well, Steve the Tubular Bells SACD is too., posted on November 29, 2000 at 14:06:23

you can bet yer britches that the "newly discovered" four track masters are really from the quad Tubular Bells project. OHMYGAWD will we ever be free of the 70's? Hell, more than half the titles the people request from you are rehashed 70's albums. So why not revist quad too? The reissue market is a big 70's nostalgia love fest. BTW great job with the Cars: The Cars. One of my favorite 70's albums. ;)

Steve,

The Dan was one of my favorite bands - great music and great musicians!!!

Would love to hear SACD's of Katy Lied and Aja. Even the Royal Scam would do! :-)

Don't laugh - but I've compared the Steely Dan Mofi Orig Gold and I think the latest DVD Release Sounds much better PCM and Analog. DD Not to impressed. Thoughts anyone??

Good player, sure, but the SGHT reviewer definitely preferred the sound of SACD.

They are however compatible with any DVD player, a player without DVD-A capability has access to Dolby Digital and DTS tracks.

So not a complete botch I'd say. Since they included DVD in the format title, it's pretty obvious what's needed to play it back.
