Can't wait to hear the other songs on this disc. Check It Out is a great "back to old school" song.

I liked it. Sometimes the voices fell a bit deja heard but the music/production is very good. Old school and very current at the same time.

On sale at Best Buy/Circuit City this week for $10. It's good. Lots of old school beats and usual Beastie rhymes. There is some political rap on it. You can hear occasional Bush slams from time to time. I recommend this album to anyone who's a fan. I liked this one better than 'Hello Nasty.'

I think there was variety on previous albums that's completely missing here on the new one. It's all at the same energy level and there are no instrumentals. I'm sure it will grow on me, but at this point i think it's weak compared to previous efforts. A lot of the rhymes are forced.

On the other hand the humor level is off the charts. You can't help but laugh when Ad-rock claims to be known as sharp cheddar after MCA does a rhyme about gorganzola and provalone.

mixmastermike is more authorative on the scratching compared to Hello Nasty, but I still much prefer hurricane. Especially on the track "Hey Fuck You". MMM just lacks all authority at the microphone. I saw the bboys last week here in the bay area and it was a real letdown to hear Mxmastermike call out for each of the bboys to "come and rock the sure shot". They should get rid of that guy. He's a technician and has no feel for authorative beats and syncopated rhythms. He gets lost constantly during performances.

Surprise: I didn't find it mixed all that well. That's normal, of course. The voices sometimes get lost even worse than usual, unfortunately.

Current favorites are "Letter to NYC" and "Shazam".

The Beasties are fun!! I just got Paul's Boutique so am into that now. What really got me hooked was Itergallatic. I just had to have that song. Turns out the whole album is great. There are parts where you simply forget you are listening to the Beasties. Sure they have a sig sound/style, but they really can vary things. The female vocal part on Hello Nasty is just increbible. Of course, I had to get the 4LP Anthology so as to get a taste of everything. The Alive 10" is cool cool cool to. Well, I'm gonna get this new album, even if it's a little more of the same.

If you own Check Your Head and Ill Communication, you pretty much have heard everything on The In Sound from Way Out.

Don't expect anything like that on the new album.

thanks. I'll definitely stay out from their new one!, posted on June 19, 2004 at 09:36:44

You must admit that appreciating the beastie boys for their instrumentals is like appreciating Black Sabbath for Tony Iommi's acoustic guitar interludes (gorgeous 2-chord variations which appear on Sab's 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th albums amidst the hardest rock of the day--but no one listens to Sab for that!)

If those kinds of funky instrumentals appeal to you, check out early '70s stuff from the Crusaders, Meters, Eddie Harris, Les McCann, Blackbyrds etc. The bboys were listening to that and imitating what they heard to the best of their ability. The good thing about the bboys instrumentals was it broke up their other songs (but on previous albums, those were more varied anyway).

I wouldn't recommend their new one as the best work the bboys have done, but it has a good vibe to it.

oh... I LOVE the Crusaders! funky beats and good groove. (nt), posted on June 26, 2004 at 12:26:47
