I am looking for advice. I am selling my entire system. Including the music. How have people here done it? Is this the best place? I've never sold anything other than one preamp here, meaning the audio asylum.

I have sold items here on the Asylum Trader, AudiogoN and Craigslist. The Trader seems to take the longest to sell, AudiogoN the fastest and Craigslist second. I do all my Craigslist sales out of my garage so the potential buyer can demo the item and it is nice not to deal with shipping.

Software is a pain to sell, you'll get much more $$ selling individually but it is much more labor/time intensive. It would be good for us to know how many of each media and an idea of genre(s). My feeling is audio folks are tight eBay will yield more as well as the much bigger audience there. Good titles should be auctioned. Maybe audiophile recordings like D2D, 180 gram etc might do better at A'gon.

As to gear all of it seems to be Audiogon worthy except the Rotel in the bedroom system. eBay that.

that would require an email not a post here to comply with policy

Your first issue is the whole system plus the music. some people want one
or the other and specifically a component, or a genre/artist/work/etc.

the second issue is your expectation as to what it's worth. components
will command their own prices. music $$ drops with large lots, non-hot
genres, equivalent new prices on different formats, etc

the third and larger issue is the amount of work you wish to put in.
LPs sold one-at-a-time is time-consuming but returns the most. Sell
a lot of 1000 LPs and find out your highest offer is under $1/each.

I have bought 600 classical LPs for $100. 400+ classical CDs - $125.

your best bet is to offer these in small (desirable) sets to AA
members and other websites through their trading forums.

Not sure if I'll actually pull the trigger. I was feeling overwhelmed with "stuff".

If you have too much stuff, pick one thing you haven't used in 6 months or more and sell it.

If you can't bring yourself to sell it, ask yourself why and if you can't figure out the answer, put it on the market here. Maybe an unused phono preamp or an old receiver that's just gathering dust.

If you know you haven't used it in years and you still find the idea of selling it terrible, go get help. I've seen plenty of hobbies become hoards.

boboli-

please notify me if/when you decide to sell anything!
I would be interested in your gear and any CD/SACD discs.

EBay- you will capture the largest Population.
Audiogon- 2nd best to eBay.
Audio Asylum- I believe this is the least costly for Ads?
U.S. AudioMart- this site is up -and-coming for audiophiles.

Craigslist- much will depend upon your locale and the traffic generated.
Consignment- based upon your local Audio Shops and the traffic generated.

We have Healthcare in common- I am an ER/Trauma and Critical Care R.N.

This touches on an important point: what are you trying to sell and who is your likely buyer?

If it is high-end, esoteric stuff, that might be here or A'Gon. If it's vintage or mass-market, EBay might be the best bet, although this site is good for vintage as well.

If you don't want to pack and ship, then Craigslist, LetGo or Offer Up are worth considering.

Finally, if you want to sell to a dealer and your stuff is in at least 7/10 condition, try the Music Room.
