Was America Beautiful?

I hate what "entertainers" do to the National Anthem; the Luke Bryan fellow was interviewed prior and gushed about "putting his stamp on it". Wish he had stamped it at a faster tempo, or better yet, just mailed it in.

I did enjoy, and was moved by, The Schuyler Sisters, from the Hamilton song of the same name. The Guardian, which could have been commenting on the Super Bowl performance wrote, "the number combines TLC with the Andrews Sisters and a hat tip to 'Three Little Maids From School Are We". Anyone know who is TLC?

What did you-all think?

Sporting renditions of Francis Scott Key's brilliant masterpiece are always sung incorrectly by the hip-chart-topping blowhard wannabe singers. Too many notes riffing through, too much "doing it my way"...

Imitation, not interpretation, is the sincerest form of flattery. The glaring error that 98% of all National Anthem singers commit is singing the word "banner" as a four-syllable word with an ascending and descending run to "showcase" (cough) their supreme command of "melodicism" (choke, gag, die). Key is rolling in his grave every time this is murdered in this way. The proper three-note version is stoic, majestic in the best patriotic musical style, and is a major feature in Key's awesome composition. Alas, every hack star singer wants to riff it up to compete with that highly-overrated singer Whitney Houston.

I like O Canada. Less to fuck up or with.

Key wrote it as a poem if I recall correctly, so I doubt he is doing any rolling in said grave.

When I hear the National Anthem I always get a little teary eyed thinking about the words and what they mean.I wish the performers would do the same. The National Anthem speaks for itself and is more powerful than anyone who sins it -- just the way it is. Just sing in tune and don't screw up the words and I'll be happy :-)

TLC means tender loving care.

"Wish he had stamped it at a faster tempo."

About a third of the way into the anthem, realizing it would take awhile, I went to the grocery store for more game snacks, then picked up hot wings from our favorite sports bar, and returned home to catch the last few lyrics.

It was OK..... Which is actually "excellent" by today's standards..... But I don't like any lyrics doctored in the name of political correctness.......

TLC were a US girl group who sold 11 million copies of their second album.

As far as girl groups go only the Spice Girls sold more globally and TLC remains the only girl band to receive a Diamond sales certification for an album.

The style, tempo changes with every rendition just as it should be. A reflection of the individuality of it's citizens.

The anthem was originally a drinking song, and it should be handled that way, with a brisk tempo and a lusty, robust treatment, not the "expressive" stuff we hear from so many singers who can barely recall the words.

"Was America Beautiful?"

What a dumbass question. What planet are you from?!

Of course it is, and always has been.

'Course, there's the possibility that you want to start a political argument. That ain't gonna fly.
