Diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, Gord Downy said his goodbyes, adressed his fans and even tossed in some political statements to Justin Trudeau, our Canadian Priminister. Trudeau of course was in attendance, wearing his jean jacket, opting to see the concert rather than be present in Brazil for the Olympics

Indeed the power of music is part of all of us, an Olympic torch in itself by bringing people together, and providing emotions and motivation both lyrically and musically.

As an Audio Asylum inmate, I am proud to be part of that world.

Cheers!

Was in Toronto week before last and one of the last concerts was happening in the ACC next to my hotel on Bremner Street. I asked one of the people what the big deal was (I noticed a lot of folks around my age (49) acting very emotional) and when someone told me the story I got all choked up.

I never heard of these guys but I can certainly tell they are very important to Canadians. It's fantastic that he gets the time to say goodbye to his fans in such a great way!

Did you get to go? I'd have given a lung to get tickets.

yes this Band is Important to many Canadians. Dunno why But then many like Molsons 'Canadian' Beer too.
Not All of us though :-)
Although owning most of the Hip's albums I find their Music as More a monotone wall of sound.. sounding...Very Much.. like that of: Spirit of the West and Blue Rodeo.
Indistinct 'musical' noise.
There is genuine reason the Hip never had much success outside of Canada.
That in no way detracts from the tragedy of the poor man's disease situation however.

I give credit to the CBC for airing this entire concert commercial free and bypassing the millions in revenue covering the Olympics. And I liked the fact that Justin Trudeau also flew back from the Olympics to attend without security and just wore shirt and jeans.

I quite enjoyed the article about the Hip, and about Canada's way of doing things in situations like this. Perhaps you will enjoy the article as well.
