In my case - usually leads to frustration with indifferent audio quality or the "sharks" that are constantly moving in the audience that are damned distracting.

Myst say the seeing part has never been that important to me unless I wanted to see how the hell Robert Fripp was making those sounds and other such inquiries ...

A live event can be really fantastic. That's what I'm missing, I knew it!

Sometimes, it is NOT so. But you won't know until you try it! (Every concert is different and IMO, you really, literally, don't know what you're missing usually, as some concerts are great and some just aren't.)

Additionally, every "live" event is not a great one, either.

that happier people are more likely to go out and attend a live music event than someone who is unhappy?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Probably because they put so much into it their life force is tapped out sooner.

Had Momma Cass Elliot shared that chicken salad sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they both might still be alive today.

So mkuller, If your close enough and like jazz start showing up at Bird and Becket books in SF. Jazz every weekend. Tonight, Scott Foster. Tomorrow night Calvin Keys, formerly with Ahmad Jamal. Both very good guitar players. Grant Levin is always a highlight, IMHO, YMMV. Great acoustics in this place. I'm almost always there for Grant's 7:30 Sat. shows. Be there or be square (shows you how old I am). T

Seeing live music... is amplified, crowded, expensive, too loud to ever enjoy.., posted on August 20, 2016 at 09:28:15
First problem for me is I HATE crowds of people.
Second it is expensive as Hell for most tickets, and then getting TO the performance, parking etc..
Then the noise. ALL, I mean 100% of performances are TOO DAMN LOUD.
(Except perhaps small Classical chamber groups)

So with all the negatives I find wrong with live music, I am FAR HAPPIER buying some music on LP or CD, and sitting down and listening at home.

...I haven't seen live jazz in a while but I'm up for it.

Next time invite me to go with you and I'll plan for it.

I think one has to be selective in what one chooses to see. Last year, I saw Natalie Merchant in a venue which seated about 500; it was perfect. This year, saw Lucia Micarelli in a similar venue: also perfect.

The venue is important, and that may, in part, be determined by the type of music as well. I don't think the Rolling Stones would play in a venue of only 500.
