The late Eliott Smith reported that Celine Dion was the sole of graciousness and reassurance at the Oscars. But is anyone else bothered by Mr. Crowe's claim that aversion to Eagles' music is fueled solely by resentment and what have lately been called "New York values"?

Perhaps RS has softened its opinion where the Eagles are concerned. Early on the magazine never missed an opportunity to trash the band. As recently as 2011, RS rated such artists as Hank Williams, Radiohead, Patti Smith, Sex Pistols, Public Enemy, Velvet Underground, and The Ramones (ahead of the Eagles) when publishing its "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."

I guess there's no accounting for taste.
