Not a bad effort. Made in the same factory as ProJect and Music Hall. Expected $300 street price.

Once upon a time, something like this would have been put on a bench and really tested. Now people just spin a few records, and that's the review.

If this Crosley unit bears any resemblance the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, I'd avoid it like the plague.

I think his point is that "Crosley" name being placed on something that is not cheap plastic garbage (nt), posted on September 2, 2015 at 08:31:00

A good-quality turntable for $300? Color me unconvinced.

So why even bother? It's not a Crosley turntable is a Pro-Ject/Music Hall turntable. So it's going to sound the same as their equivalent models...

If I was the reviewer I would be embarrassed to even say I am reviewing a Crosley turntable when it is not. Audio reviewing has sunk to a new low......

Plastic dimestore garbage.

No, a $300 turntable is not going to be very good, but it is not Fisher Price toys.

I've been using turntables for more than 40 years. Yes, I'm familiar with Crosley's products. I'm also familiar with the stuff Pro-Ject churns out. Calm down.

It's a lot better than it has a right to be given the expected price of 3 Benjamins.

Ahhh, back in the days when they didn't assemble turntables with a single phillips-head screwdriver.

These modern, entry-level belt-drive turntables are pieces of crap, for extremely casual listening, at best.

If it gets someone who would have bought a the cheaper Crosley to buy this then I would say it is a winner. Everyone starts somewhere. My first table was a Pioneer PL512 when it came out. It came with an Empire 2000 cartridge. That with my home brewed speakers and Tandy (Rat Shack) err Pioneer, integrated amp set me on my way. This product could very well do the same for someone else.

Of course we are not their target market but my son, who is 10, or an older teenager, just might be. And the more the young are exposed to decent products the better off this industry will be.

These will be stocked at BN, where this market can grab one. They can't grab anything else, as the days of stereo shops are long fading. They are not going to travel 100-250 miles to have a listening session. That is a long bike ride for them.

So, relax and be thankful.

I say, nice job, Crosley!!!!!!!!!

"And the more the young are exposed to decent products the better off this industry will be."

The problem is, this isn't a decent product. If it's built in the same factory as Project Debut Carbons, but for $100 less, it's probably using 5-year-old cast-off technology from Pro-Ject, rebadged for Crosley. Even new technology from Pro-Ject is no great shakes. I can only imagine what this Crosley thing is like.

A kid would be better off either with an iPod, or saving his money for a better turntable. They don't do serious tests on these entry-level belt-drives because they're pieces of junk. They're aimed at people who get carried away at the idea of owning a turntable, but are completely clueless about the technology.

"Is hum normal?" "Can I back-cue with this turntable?"

$300 would buy a lot of CD's or downloadable songs. I can't believe the gullibility of some of the people in the audio market, I really can't.

What $300, new table with cartridge do you recommend? The ProJect Carbon generally gets good reviews. I've never heard one but yours is the first that I have read that says it is junk.

Not everyone has the budget to buy YOUR turntable of choice. Not everyone would buy YOUR turntable of choice, even if they had the money. Different people, different priorities, different budgets....different ears.

It's not junk unless you tested it yourself. And then your opinion is just that....an opinion.

Back in the day, that Dual was thought of as a flimsy piece of junk wrapped in ten bucks worth of wood trim.

Today, among a plethora of crap tables, the Dual looks good.

Time has a way of changing perception.

It looks like a Pro-ject turntable with veneered plinth. Will the veneer stand up over time? Even the Rega RP-1 appears to be using plastic on their tonearm. So, for $300, probably OK. A used turntable would be a better deal, though.

Hi, Byrd69,
His profile page may explain his recurring disgust for most anything vinyl...

"A digital guy now, I merely tolerate vinyl and own some old gear."

At least he doesn't offer unsolicited advice. '-)

So when did you hear this Crosley? And by the way, what Pro-ject models do you have experience with?

not.

Looks like a nice starter rig light years ahead of what Crosley and their ilk have previously been offering.
