Buying a new Porsche....wondering if the Burmeister upgrade is a big step up from the Bose. Has anyone with audiophile ears heard it?

Why do you want to hear anything but that wonderful exhaust note?

I heard the Burmester system in a stationary Panamera and it was remarkably good. On the road? I wouldn't need it.

I have briefly heard the Burmeister and it was better sound than the Bose. Whether it is worth the extra money is up to you. I think it will add to your enjoyment over the Bose.

I purchased the Bose upgrade and although it has 14 speakers, 585 watts, 200-watt subwoofer and surround sound, bla, bla, it is the typical Bose sound: rolled off and closed in. It definitely was not worth the $5,500 I paid as part of a PCM package upgrade.

The $5500 will also buy a leather dashboard, with wood steering wheel, shift knob and trim - things that will net you more on a resale. They are also beautiful and give a luxurious feel and to me are worth it.

Good luck.

Plus 1. We had the Bose on our Infiniti G37, very blah. Our Acura TL has an Elliot Shiner designed, posted on July 23, 2015 at 14:25:03

system (ELS). The difference is easily discernible even at highway speed with a/c roaring full blast.

David....there's even a button on the car to make the engine sound louder....but then again, there's a button on the radio that listens to the ambient sounds and adjusts the volume accordingly.....its all nuts.

I had a lowly Levinson / Harmon in one of my previous cars. While it was good, I preferred listening to the exhaust note burble when I let off the throttle. The sound system got very little use. ;-)

Given the price on a Burmeister system, I would opt for some performance goodies instead. But that's just me.

Don't know about the Bermeister, but Bose sucks.

I have a Bose system (quite by accident - it was "included") in my Nissan Pathfinder, and can never get it to sound "good".

:)

If shopping for a new Porsche I wouldn't be too concerned about the sound of the radio!

However, SgreenP if your dealer has much inventory at all you should be able to hear demos of both if that is important to you.

I test drove a Macan with the Burmeister installed. It was very, very good, even at interstate speeds. Since I did't have $5,600 to blow I stayed with the standard system. Not as wonderful as the Burmeister but now I can take wife out to dinner a time or two.
