A lot of us here are getting up in years, and with the passing of BB King, I was wondering about musical bucket lists. I have a couple that come to mind; what about the rest of you?

1) Listen to Maggie 20.7s in a very good setup.
2) Attend a couple of live concerts: Ahn Trio, Katie Melua, Lucia Micarelli

Well, let's see here ...

Revive all the swing era greats ... oh ... can't do that ...

So how about:

See Aaron Diehl live - he can flat play the piano
See Dick Hyman live once more before he goes
See Danny Richmond live
See a live Lavay Smith concert
See Tony Rice and Dan Crary again

So many more ...

Lack of skill dictates economy of style. - Joey Ramone

for me anyway, it's the Miles Davis catalog, but if you can only have one. Start with Bitches Brew. Everytime you listen to it, you will pick up on something new. This is the single most studied piece of music in the jazz community.

When Muddy Waters passed away, I went on a blues concert binge to see a lot of delta blues musicians while I still had the chance.

One of the concerts I went to was BB King (ok, maybe not pre-war delta blues, but close enough). One of the best concerts I've ever been to. It was a cultural experience too. I was a white kid from the suburbs who went to the concert in torn up jeans, and everyone else at the Chicago south-side Regal theater was black and dressed really nice for a night out on the town. I felt foolishly under-dressed, but the music was unforgettable.
