I've put this in the General section rather the vinyl because it relates to an online sale and the ethics around it , just so happens to be of a vinyl box set. I'm curious to get opinions.
I ordered a sealed box set of Joy Division ( A Record Day release of a few years ago) from a well known ( and I had thought, well regarded)( seller of vinyl and analog products. The product listing clearly stated "original artwork" and the photo showed all 3 LPs in the set with original cover set. I know that when Rhino put this re-issue set out , one version had plain LP covers , no labels on LP's etc. I specifically asked the retailer whether the set I was buying had the original art to was a plain copy. They assured me that the set was as advertised.
So you can guess what happened when I opened the set- all plain labels, no labelling on LP's ...exactly what I was assured I was not getting.
I have contacted them ; they are apologetic and have offered me a 20% discount. Given that I don't actually want the set they sold me , and checked with them first , I think they should have offered me a full refund. I'm curious what others think- am I being unreasonable in my thinking?
Thanks for any thoughts.

... You should demand a full refund.

However, is it worth the hassle? (Only you can answer this)

There is no way I'd accept a discount. I'm all or nothing.

I'd send the records back pointing out the product is not as described and I have been lied to, either deliberately or inadvertently.

Of course, there are no guarantees you will get your money back.

Contact them by telephone and be polite but insistent you want a full refund.

Good luck.

Rotten.

You are NOT being unreasonable. Item is not as represented.

If you paid via Paypal, the charge might be reversed from your account. Consider filing a Paypal dispute after further discussion with the seller. Be careful of the classic string-along tactic. There are time limits on Paypal disputes. Email communication with the seller as well as any images of the original listing (if available) can be used as support for your claim. Photos of the set received will also be helpful.

If paid by standard credit card, you might receive some support. You can consult the card company about options. At least a temporary credit until resolution might be possible.

Best wishes.

80% is too much to pay for something you don't want.

I agree with everyone else. You've been lied to. It's up to the liar to make things right with no penalty to you.

Just to close the circle; the company concerned has agreed to take the set back and offer a full refund. Of course , I have to pay the shipping back but at least they have done the right thing.
Thanks for all the answers.
