I've been a big fan of Pentangle and John Renbourn Group since the early 70s....

I had the pleasure of seeing him perform a few times in the Chicago area and at a couple of venues in Wisconsin, the last an appearance in Milwaukee with Jacqui McShee, whose voice simply must be experienced. I was lucky enough to sit right up against the stage, front and center, less than 20 feet away.

John made his nuanced guitar playing look so dead easy, as all true masters do. I'm honored to have met the man and experienced his breathtaking artistry.

A notable loss this is.

I'm jealous and - YES - Jacqui McShee is absolutely incredible as well.

I was a late arrival to his fan club. I didn't listen to Pentangle back in the day. So many good groups-so little time. Bob Crump was the person who got me to listen to his work. I saw him play at a local small venue about 10 years ago. RIP

Back in HS, when most of my peers were head-bangin' to Zep and Sabbath, I was seriously into Pentangle, Fairport, Steeleye Span, and Incredible String Band. Renbourn was one of the players who inspired me to explore finger picking and alternate tunings, and introduced me to the medieval and renaissance repertoire. "Lady and the Unicorn" remains one of my "desert island collection" albums -- listened to it last night, and realized I still love it as much as I did at 16.

Wow, another great leaves this world. I remember in college, during the mid-seventies, I used to spend much of my food money on records. I was a hungry music lover. The record store I went to would always play new LP's as they hit the shelves. I was not familiar with JR till I came into the shop one day and they were playing "The Balck Baloon". I had to have it! They pulled it off the TT and sold it to me. I played that LP till I could hear both sides at the same. I still have it and many more of his LP's and CD's. He was one of my all time fav's and I'm just sorry I never saw him live. Bye John.
