How did you determine this? And what has been the norm?

...use ebay. MUCH more exposure than the other boards like audio-markt, where the prices are usually too high, and the ads disappear from the 'newly listed' front page every 5 minutes.
of course, the whole bidding war thing is corrupted by secret software bidding nonsense.
trademe in new zealand avoids that by extending auctions until people stop bidding. which is still open to corruption of course if you can write a software program to snip.
to me, it's amazing how many different audio companies stay alive for even a year. thank slave labor in china and 'supply side' (i.e., voodoo) economics. and ignorant consumers who are slaves to advertising.

What I really was asking is how many new ads/day were there before the recent changes, and thus how much have the number of new ads declined. If their new policies are actually having a major negative impact, then perhaps there is reason to hope that the owners will be forced change their policies.

your search radius if you're actually interested in, what? buying? selling? trading? browsing? or just looking for a topic to post about?

100 miles? Are they in the middle of any measurable urban center or densely populated area?

THAT might mean something, or otherwise indicate something of significance worth mentioning.

Otherwise, who cares where audiogon is physically located OR what is or isn't happening in their own backyard?

I agree the last minute bidding kills any interest in eBay for me.. an extender would be great. nt, posted on October 18, 2014 at 19:33:42

Things have gotten so bad that even vacuum tube scammers are jumping ship.

It has been years since I bought much there, but I visit daily to monitor asking prices in my locale, which is Rochester, Michigan.

Where do you go instead to buy used gear, if not Audiogon?

A number of years ago I created about 15 Agon searches for various manufacturers whose products I was interested in and saved them as bookmarks. I can easily launch the whole folder of searches and see the results of each one in a separate browser tab.

Following the disastrous site redesign a couple of years ago, the number of listings returned for each of those searches became a small fraction of what I had been seeing before. And it's never recovered.

Well, I just checked the AudiogoN page and it said 11,980 new ads in the last 30 days or about 400 ads per day.

I think that loudspeaker hifi, and the portion of the population that once supported it, is dying off. Things might be better for loudspeaker hifi in the far east than it is here in the western world today.

Harder to sell on audiogon I noticed a great decrease in ad hits and replies to such. Seems folks are more interested in buying new gear. Lots of great values in new and its effecting used values to some degree.

These days I only buy recordings, vacuum tubes, capacitors, etc., and the Audio Asylum Trader and Audio Circle are places I look for gear. But I hope the current owner of Audiogon sells his moribund trademark to an entrepreneur who can resurrect and manage it with due respect to the audio community.

Thats why "Buy it Now" pricing exists.

A few weeks ago there were some ads within that radius from my residence in southeastern Michigan. My point being that Audiogon has been committing suicide with its foolish policies.

I may be wrong; time will tell...

The owner's pucker factor must be approaching 10 by now.

I bought an ARC preamp from an Audiogon ad; turned out the guy lived 10 miles from my folks' house. Went over, had a beer and a listen to his main system (BAT amps and Vandersteens, IIRC). Left with a good deal on a preamp.

If only all transactions went that way...
