I'm very new and fresh to the world of vinyl. Picked up an Audio Technica LP120 recently and haven't looked back. However, I'm currently running through a standard home theater system and it's just.. not good. I'm looking for suggestions from people who know their stuff.. as far as amp/receivers and speakers go. It would be used solely for record listening as my home theater setup works just fine for that. I'm far from an audiophile, but still want to get the most out of this new hobby.

Any suggestions or pointing to another forum/board for beginners would be much appreciated!

I would go over to the vinyl asylum. There you will get all the info you need. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, we all started there.....

I think you need to figure out how much money you want/can spend. You will probably wind up splitting the amount spent between the speakers and the amplifier. Knowing the size of the room is important for sizing the components.

In looking at the specs for the AT, I see it has a "switchable built in preamplifier", posted on September 20, 2014 at 11:24:51

That must be switched "on". Then you would run your rca plugs from the table to an aux or cd or dvd input on your home theater receiver. If it isn't switched on the sound will be VERY "thin", low volume, with no dynamics.

It's actually a damned nice TT. It's built a hell of a lot better than the Rega P2 I used to use.
I'd buy the AT before I spent $400 on the entry level Rega or Pro-ject.
