Story: Audio Equipment Manufacturer Threatens Amazon Reseller With 'Mandatory Jail Time'

This one was a real head scratcher. Some guy bought a pair of Velodyne headphones on sale and then sold them on Amazon for the regular price. He then got an email supposedly from a firm called "Sock and Bruster Internet Policing Services Inc. LPC, Legal Prosecution and Collection Agency" (who apparently don't even exist) with all kinds of threats. Here's an excerpt:

"We are forthwith enlisted our services to protect price integrity by seeking public fractures and selling contract terms and illegal selling of products by unauthorized distributors and dealers on the internet in the USA and overseas."

Public fractures? Whoa! Pretty wacky stuff.

Using false enforcement authority (threatening jail time) is deemed a misdemeanor offense in most jurisdictions. Not to mention the use of a false lawfirm to carry out legal proceedings.

Maybe in the late 1990's? All of this is a real shame, because Velodyne makes some nice products. I've been using a Velodyne subwoofer for years. But I sure won't buy another one. Goober58	Me, I despise equipment that gets sold with big discounts (LMAO) and the grey market. Yea sure they went too far with this "reseller" but rest assured components/equipment sold by company's that protect their retail prices will/should have higher resale value.
