1. Exploring and digesting new music. Interest in new music usually begins with hearing some short section that triggers my "I gotta have that" reflex. Then comes the fun part of integrating it your musical memory.

2. Getting a new component that significantly elevates the overall performance of your system. I find myself falling in love all over again with the musical library by discovering new boundaries with so many favorites.

I recently purchased a new preamp that redefined the boundaries of my system and moved the previous one of fifteen years to the garage system. I'm beside myself. :)

E-Stat, what did ya get? Do tell.

I did the same thing about a month back. Bought, not new, but the latest version of the CAT SL1 and was really digging exactly what you said until one of the high-voltage trannys on my Acoustat servos decided to short itself and die. Danged thing gave up the ghost after only 35 years of service. Good news is I am going to get it repaired tomorrow and hopefully can get back to enjoying those redefined boundaries again very soon.

Mike

which also allowed me to run balanced cables between it and DAC and power amps. They aren't as stiff as the previous JPS Labs cables, so I guess I can lose the risers. :)

Good luck on your repair! I suspect you're already in withdrawal.

I just remounted my Nottingham 294 arm and armed it with a new Dynavector XX2MkII cartridge after a year being without the arm. That combination makes particularly sweet music together.

terje rypdal is a dmm good guitarista and miroslav vitous is a very interesting bassist. enjoy the whole video in the link below and you will want to own the disc as i do.

Not into DVD/BR video concerts, but will likely buy a used CD with the Return of Per Ulv cut on it. Thanks!

...I'm with you on the new music part. Probably bought a half dozen CDs in the last couple of weeks.

New Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Gary Clark, Jr., couple of 2 CD DooWop collections and two of '70's hits.

But I'm no longer interested in upgrading my system.

So my #2 favorite thing is to invite a couple of music lover, non-audiophile friends over for a night of wine and music listening.

Either ditch them or get a whole lot more of 'em. There's much to like about bendable cables.

In agreement with an additional comment that probably says more about me than anything else - but one of the joys of making any improvement to THE SYSTEM, on those occasions when it is an improvement (including tweaks here) is that the records you love the most are revealed to you in some, even if slight, new way.

AS close as one can come to experiencing it AGAIN. I should add like hearing it for the fourth time again. My favorite records have usually taken that many listenings before I realize there is something good there.

(Records I like on first listening (as you would expect) are usually discarded around the fourth listen)

Or, I've purchased an album initially for track "A" only to find my favorites are others. :)

edit: It took me a while to really get a band you turned me onto back in the day...

..just got back from an African Safari in Kenya, and Tanzania.... Your cat looks much more vicious than the lions and cheetah I got up close and personal with. Recommended trip for all of you.
