The thunderstorm started right about the time that the opening bassoon solo ended, and if I didn't know better I would have thought Stravinsky had orchestrated it that way. For the cannon blast, we used a double-barreled shotgun with blanks into a 55-gallon drum obscured backstage. It sounded like an act of God, except that the pressurized air blew out windows in the closet-sized room! We went from serious in-concert behavior to hilarious laughter!
