My wife and I visited the Hall Of Fame yesterday and I must say we were both quite disappointed, especially since we drove over 700 miles to see it. A lot of the exhibits were quite sparse and one could see pretty much the same thing at any Hard Rock Cafe. As a huge Pink Floyd fan, other than a replica of The Wall with a few of the puppets, there was very little memoribalia of them. There was no mention of Syd Barrett, one of the founders.

There was a lot of Beatles and Rolling Stones but most of the other artists were not that well represented. My wife and I expected much more.

Interesting how different people react to things like the Hall. When we visited a few years ago, we thought it was great...as has everyone else we know who's seen it. Your description doesn't even seem to be of the same place we toured.

...if you're ever in Seattle, you might enjoy the Experience Museum.

It focuses a lot on Hendrix and other musicians from Seattle but it's pretty good.

And there's a science fiction film museum attached.

Frank Gehry architecture.

The place exceeded my expectations. I always have low expectations of commercialized attractions so I enjoy stuff.

Agreed. The Experience was excellent. Walked in and there is a concert sized stage that was showing vintage footage of The Who on a massive screen. We just grabbed a seat, watched and listened for about 20 minutes before heading to the Hendrix and Nirvana rooms. Recommended.

We went through the whole thing in a few hours. We were expecting multiple visits to get through it all. Not even close. Since we have relatives in Cleveland we didn't go out of our way to see the Hall. If we had traveled to Cleveland specifically for the Hall I would have been greatly disappointed.

Same here. I thought we would kill at least 6 hours there, but we saw everything in a little over 2 hours. I have been to 7 different Hard Rock Cafe's and I saw more between them than I did at the Hall Of Fame. What they did have was good but we expected much more.

If you have low expectations you'll never be disappointed. At least, that's what my wife tells me.

I was in Cleveland last week. Was hoping to visit but my wife and kids were not to interested. Did see a Indians/Yankees game but that was the only activity in Cleveland. My sister lives out there so hopefully next visit.

We stayed at The Hilton Garden Inn a block from the stadium. We ate dinner the first night at The Winking Lizard sports bar and although the food was ok (my medium rare steak that I waited 45 min for was burnt on one side and barely cooked on the other)It was NOT medium rare!!! I wasn't willing to wait for another so I shut up and ate it. It was too noisy for our taste. The Hotel recommended them. The second night we ate at The Hard Rock where we always get a good meal. Again, they had more artifacts of interest to us on the walls.

I was there a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed the old couch that Jimi Hendrix's dad donated.

Yes I saw that too, it was really great. It wasn't all disappointing but I expected way more items on display for all the artists there. I also liked the piano that Paul McCartney used, candle wax and all.

I drove from St. Louis to Cleveland in 1998 for an exhibit that made it to a big coffee table softback called I Want To Take You Higher: The History Of Psychedelic Rock (how could michaelhigh POSSIBLY pass that?). It was amazing. Pretty comprehensive for a commercial presentation of a very obtuse music genre, and all the other displays were well-presented as well. There's a lot of ill will surrounding who did or didn't make it into the hall or when, and what they did publicly as a result. From Mike Love challenging Spruce to a jam (lame-o) to Alex Lifeson's recent bla bla bla ad nauseum (the height of arrogance IMO), the Hall has and always will be controversial. At least in baseball, the numbers are empirical, very little subjectivism there!
