I swore to myself I would not buy another Norah Jones album after the last two fiascos, however, I gave in and got Billy Joe and Norah...Foreverly. The sound is of the Everly Bros, or young Simon and Garfunkle...recommended....also the Bruce Springstein album Nebraska. This is the very first Springstein album that was recorded very well...the others really suck. The music is low key ...just Bruce and his guitar and a lonely harmonica coming from the far off mountain, relaxing around the campfire. Wonderful!!

hardly a relaxing listen IME. It is gritty and depressive, frankly (and I mean that in a good way!).

They were trying to see if the NJ guy had a market as a country singer. Perhaps inspired by Dylan's Nashville Skyline. Nebraska is here on my shelf but simply cant listen to it.

Cheers

The only folks who think her last two albums were "fiascos" are men old enough to be her father and want her to make Come Away 6 times so they can delight guests with how good their system sounds on female vocals.

The rest of us have gone along for the ride. Little Broken Hearts is a masterwork.

Huge + 1 on Little Broken Hearts. I didn't think it could nearly be as good as the reviews said it was. twas^, posted on April 17, 2014 at 20:49:45

I agree,Foreverly is outstanding! If you like the Everly Brothers you should check out The Chapin Sisters "A DATE WITH THE EVERLY BROTHERS" , you can order it on their site.

Can't think of another song that made me think the artist might actually, really be contemplating murder. Very scary, very well done.

Foreverly is a great listen, Long Time Gone is wonderful.

come away with me was a fine initial release but the following few were half hearted in feel and execution. but with 'Little Broken Hearts' she hit her own stride. BRAVO for that one.

i see no reason to oppose the idea that the albums that followed 'come away with me' were lackluster and every reason to shout HURRAH for 'hearts'. and it's nothing to do with being mean spirited. it's good to see that norah is no longer treading water not of her choosing.

another album that has an everly bros feel is raising sand by plant/krause. what a surprise that one was.

Interesting take. I don't think she was ever treading water...

What a lot of folks may have missed is that when she was playing clubs in NYC, where I saw here two years before she got signed, she was playing a lot of country rock, pop, and even punk. There was very little "jazz". WFUV started playing her demo tape, which I have a copy of, and Blue Note decided to mold her a bit into a chanteuse.

Several of her side projects allow her true spirit to come through, like El Madmo, and The Little Willies.

"They were trying to see if the NJ guy had a market as a country singer."

That's not even remotely true. The subject matter was inspired by Springsteen's discovery of Woody Guthrie, but the songs were all written with the intent of recording them with the band. "Nebraska" is comprised of poorly-recorded four-track home demos, and many of the songs were written for what eventually became the "Born in the USA" album.

When everyone agreed that the demos were better as they were, Columbia released the album because by then Springsteen was a major artist. It was a vanity record in some ways, I guess, because it was such a departure, but I believe that everyone who heard the demos were strongly affected by them and agreed that it was a worthwhile release.

It was the opposite of "marketing" and far, far removed from what was happening on the country charts in the early 1980s (think Juice Newton). If anything, it was commercial suicide and most Springsteen fans were baffled by "Nebraska." It's now rightly considered a classic.

Jeffrey....I strongly suspect Nebraska is newly recorded, not a compilation of home tapes. On MY system, this album sounds very realistic, with great definition, and space. I really liked Devils and Dust, but the CD was so poorly recorded, I got the LP thinking it would be better...nope.

I promise you it is a home recording done by Springsteen, often at his kitchen table. This is well documented by multiple sources. I like the sound of it, as well.

Yes, twice. New York and LA. She did an extensive tour after the release of the album in 2012. I have seen her on every tour since the release of the first album. She is a charmer. :)

Although I have not seen her in person I have watched numerous concert DVD's, guest appearances and assorted TV broadcasts of her shows. All have been remarkable and show her considerable talents in a variety of genres. One of my favs in her rendition of Time Slips Away from the Willie nelson 80th birthday party. I think Willie almost cried listening to her bring that classic to life. Also, the first Little Willies is a delight. Hope to see her live some day.
