I have been actively thinking about passive, since buying a passive preamp. and will repeat my wandering I made on Audio Review. Wouldn't it be a great service to consumers if the component designers and manufacturers just eleminate active preamps altogether. Instead, maker all CD players with a passive attenuater and volumn control with maybe four or five inputs. Those with vinyle can plug their phono-preamps, or tape players, T.V., tuners, etc. right into the CD player's inputs. And while their at it, design and manufacture the CD player correctly so they don't need Linc Dacs., "jitter controls" or any other such component (such as the Meredian 508-24). Setup would be much simpler, with fewer components and interconnects, -and less expensive. After all, isn't the purest sound achieved with less garbage ???
