I have a PAS 3X that has been upgraded with new caps and RCAs (by Sheldon Stokes before he graduated), but I am thinking of further upgrades. It is in storage now, but I like the way it sounded, except for a hum in the phono section. I'm not sure if the hum was specific to my installation, or if there is a problem.

If I were to upgrade via Joe's new boards, what would be the recommended order of upgrade, assuming I wouldn't do them all at once and leaving the phone section hum out of the equation?

Hi,
I did a Pas 3 upgrade with Joes phono, line and regulator boards. The results were extremly good. Since your leaving phono out, that leaves line and regulator boards to buy.
I Don't think you can do one with out the other, as the voltage to the new line amp is different than what the stock pas puts out.
265vdc if I remember correctly.
Pas is 330 vdc unregulated stock.
Besides you probably won't get all the sonic benefits of the new line stage without a regulated supply.
The line and regulator boards are $55 each I believe. The parts count on the line board is fairly minimal. 2 high quality caps, 2 mosfets, 1 socket, 1 12at7, and a handfull of mf and carbon resistors.
The regulator board has a small pcb mounted transformer to buy for the filiments,(maybe 10 bucks), a transistor, voltage reg.,(3 terminal lm317k I think), some caps and resistors.
I would go this route if you are looking for a big improvement at minimal cost.

I installed both and I'm very impressed with the results. Joe really demonstrated his engineering excellence, combined with his understanding of music appreciation with these boards. I think you would find the biggest improvement with the power board. But I don't know if you can install it with the stock linestage and phono boards - needs the new linestage board. Anyway it's all well worth it and I can't image ever using a stock PAS after using Curcio's boards. Go for it.

Our replacement power supply module is fully compatable with the original Dyna line and phono circuits. It's supply lines are very quiet (noise in the uV region) so any hum that was originating in the original supply (a common problem) is completely eliminated. Also with its wide bandwidth low impedance characteristic you will find that the sound of even the stock circuits is improved.
