I have an older M100 Ella. It has I believe a 50K DAC stepped attenuator. If I replace that with an external attenuator, What do I have to do to the amp besides hooking up the input straight to the Brd. It seems I remember reading something about putting a 50K resistor on the input to grnd. If this is so, and I want to use a 10K attenuator instead of the 50K, would I use a 10K resistor to grnd? Thank you.

 Hi,

If you use a TVC, use pretty much any resistor you like, considering load on the source.

If you use a stepped attenuator, use a resistor appx. 10 to 100 times that of the attenuator.

If using a Pot, place it inside the Amp and remove ANY resistors. Any load on a pot's wiper will degrade SQ.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to intolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?
