I know that there has been some interest on this board regarding the availability of Super Audio CDs. I found the attached link that lays out Sony's near-term plans. Just do a search for "super audio CD" on the page. Unfortunately, it looks like the pickings will be meager for a while. For me, this actually has been something of a plus - I picked up an acoustic guitar disc (Live in San Francisco, I think) that I would have never even bothered with before, and the performance is astounding.

Also, I can not believe that people in NYC can not find tons of SACDs. If you go to J&R Music's second floor, they have an entire section, albeit small, of SACDs. They seem to have almost all the Sony Music releases (mainly classical, jazz, and a couple of pop albums) for $21.99 - I picked up about 12. Unfortunately, they did not seem to have the DMP or Water Lily hybrid CDs. However, I did pick up a Dave Brubeck hybrid CD from Telarc.

As an aside, I would like to affirm all the positive comments I have read regarding the sound quality of this new format. There are no words to describe it adequately, but IMHO, everything simply sounds more alive and vibrant than CD. More importantly, the great sound comes with great performances from great orchestras like Philadelphia and New York. At last, I can put my Reference Recordings CDs with the MSO into storage - good sound but IMHO the MSO has a lack of cohesiveness and plays with a lack of passion!

<"There are no words to describe it adequately">

the words are these: " almost as good as the very best vinyl"

no kidding, it's that good.

Amazon.co.uk sent me the Florestan Trio playing the Ravel, Debussy & Faure piano trios. Recorded by Tony Faulkner sounds stunning, better than any of the dozen Sony reissues I have. More transparent, glorious timbre, lots of ambience; its a DSD recording.
Received an email today that the Busoni Piano Concerto also recorded by Tony Faulkner is on its way.
Meanwhile I still have a dozen SACDs on back order at CDNow. Though they did send me the Wynton Marsalis trumpet concertos this week, sounds great though not in the Hyperion league.

I want to get these Hyperion SACDs. I assume they are not released in the US, right?

I am trying to find them on Amazon's UK site, but with little success. How do you search for them? How many are available?

Thanks.

Steven

I ordered them a few days ago, too.

Just go to http://www.amazon.co.uk and then under "Classical Music" search for "Hyperion". Then just check the resulting list for the titles: Florestan Trio playing the Ravel, Debussy & Faure piano trios, and the Busoni Piano Concerto. Be sure when you click to order that the catalogue numbers begin with "SACD", as Hyperion also has the same titles in 16/44 only.

Here's a link to the Busoni:

I go to J&R myself and for the month of March (last day today), a $1.00 off on every CD, and that includes SACDs.

Thanks and how much is 17.99 pounds converted to dollars? A

I found that I could login to Amazon UK using my US account info.

They remove the VAT before they add the shipping, so they're approx £15 + 3 for shipping three discs. Figure on £16-17 shipped.
