You can not go wrong with a used Cal Alpha dac($400-$450)and it still is sold by Cal for $1495.Tubes as you know ,will give a more natural less analytical sound and you can try different tubes for your best preferences.I ,as well as other owners ,prefer the sound of the Yugo's over the stock Chinese tubes.Patiently search for the Alpha at www.Audiogon.com and read owner impressions at www.audioreview.com You can easily resell over the net if you are not totally satisfied, which I doubt that you would do.Up the road you could consider the $450. 24/96 upgrade that Cal offers(www.calaudio.com)and that has gotten all positive recommendations by owners. If for some reason ,you would not be totally pleased with the Alpha ,look elsewhere in your system for the real weak link.Happy listening !
