Can you hear a difference in the Sony CD Player filters?

I recently purchased the Sony 555ES megachanger to conveniently store the bulk of my CDs (decent, though not quite ES quality, but that's another topic).

My question has to do with the "filter" switch on the front panel. There is hardly any meaningful description in the manual, though it does say that the filter alters frequencies that are typically above the range of human hearing.

I cannot tell the difference between the three settings (which have incredibly ambiguous names like "standard, normal and clear"). Can anyone tell me what the filter is for, and can anyone attest to any audible differences?

Other equipment:
B&K AVR202 receiver
JMLab Cobalt 820 speakers
