The Audiophile Menace
-----------------------

Radio Shack SPL meter in hand,
Speakers on a zirconium stand,
Turntable hung from Shun Mook thread,
A Mpingo disk spinning overhead,
Tubes biased to a microvolt,
Family damped with the 77 Colt,
Ears unwaxed with Johnson's best,
He puts a CD to the test.

Hear the soundstage he declares,
Thats the subway and thats the sewers,
And the imaging, hear that ping?
Thats the conductor's wedding ring,
Oh that glorious depth and layering,
You can tell which cellist is swearing,
The murmur 3 feet left of centre,
Is the violists aluminium denture.

"And the music?" I inquire with passion..
"That" says he, "is out of fashion".

Bravo!

as Hazel Mose said in Flannery O'Conner's "Wise Blood" (in response to "people don't do that anymore"---and i'm paraphrasing here) "as long as I'm doin' it they still do", or words to that effect.
may you have many impossibly unreal record sales in your future.
this almost makes me forgive you for having access to all that beautiful vinyl.

regards,

Patrick

BN.COM shipped the Busch LQ on Tuesday, and they haven't arrived yet. I hope the mailman is enjoying them as much as I will when they finally arrive.

Let me know what you think of them (nt), posted on April 28, 2000 at 08:05:34

Is it the power of humor, the power of poetry, or just the civility of AA. I was scourged for making this point 2 years ago at AR.

Ever notice that after hanging out on the music forum, you start to think more and dwell more on the music? After I started collecting gobs of used vinyl - it being a challenge just to get through it all - I stopped obsessing on my cables, tweaks, etc. I haven't played my "soundstage demonstration" electronic music cd for months!

No comment about how this place has changed my mode of attire.

LOL dpy.........isn't it great ........even MONO recordings!!!!!(nt), posted on April 30, 2000 at 07:58:24

Except I thought it was a 44 Colt - but then it's the thought that counts - I guess (~:
Can I borrow/steal it for the local members of "audiophilia nervosa"?
