Plus, this great video "Legendary Conductors of the Golden Era"/ Teldec Videos

Well, I have to go off now and sell some personal belongings to pay next months VISA bill.

Financially destitute, Tom B.

I had both Kempff's complete Sonatas and Concertos of Beethoven on LP. Somehow I felt that the piano didn't sound warm enough in the Sonatas and couldn't get involved emotionally. On the other hand his concertos were wonderful. BUT, keep in mind that this impression was made some 12 years ago on a low-fi system. I really hope that my impression was wrong, because I will get the LPs back eventually...

I haven't listened to Uchida, but the other choice seem top-rate. Even Karajan's Beethoven is quite acceptable (no match with Furtwangler) :) Happy listening!

Whaddaya expect Tom? Of course you'll be overlooked, you're sandwiched between browser farts and a stink contest for christ sake. Who wants to deal with music when important stuff like that is happening.

I'm curious if repeated listenings will bring you to fully enjoying the Furtie album. I haven't gone that far back yet, so I'll let you test the water for me.

Would you do me a favor please? The next time Joongul runs past you, would you stick your foot out and trip him? There's only so much vinyl left in the Bay Area and I need to get a jump on him before he snatches the rest of the good stuff.

Thanks awfully much,
John

LOL.....John......you're right of course, music is no match for Farts and stinks.......what was I thinking!!!!!!! (nt), posted on April 18, 2000 at 22:05:07

I'm very tempted to show off the ones I picked up today, but I'll try to be civil and pass this time.

And don't worry about me :) I don't have a plan to visit bay area in the near future. LA is an easier target for me, after I sweep all the local thrift stores.

BTW, here the thrift store charged me $1.95 for each LP. Darn expensive! I only had $20, so some good looking stuffs like Tchai no.6/vonK didn't make the grade. Oops, I gotta stop it right here.

The Kempff Beethoven set is one of the 2 or 3 best ever recorded. The Uchida Schubert recordings are among the best Schubert to come down the pike in a long time--absolutely first rate, wonderful, awsome etc. The Karajan Beethoven 9th is an extremely fine recording and one of the best available.
