What a treat! Big ol' #55 leading the crowd in a roaring Mitch Miller-like sing-along. No, I don't think you'll find it at your local record store soon, but there's just something about the passion of live music and a thousand off-key voices that a recording can never capture, it just brought tears to my eyes.

Yesterday afternoon, I finally got up the nerve to spin the entire Handel's Messiah, all 8 sides, done by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and choir. I warned the wife that I wasn't sure what this was, but it might be opera or something. Yup, sure enough, that soprano was yodeling, but at least it was English yodeling.

Much to my chagrin, Sherry enjoyed it immensely and commented on it's relaxing nature. What a masterpiece! And it was a splendid, warm and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Drifting along to the music, being carried to new heights, I could have drifted off to a nap if not for the ker-chunk, ker-chunk, opps time to flip sides.

Maybe I'll break out that Barber of Seville box set.

Hey Rod, shouldn't that be posted in Music Asylum?
I'm bordering myself to this place, since I had no vote in the 'apartheid' affair, but there are a few things you should leave out of this!
'Right, you mentioned Handel and Rossini, but please respect the others :-)

Jorge

Sorry Jorge, I just can't seem to keep one thought long enough to stay on track. Ok, please don't ban me!

I do love finding these box sets. Almost every one that I've picked up might have one record that was played and the rest are like new.

Handel and Rossini ROCKS!

Well, I've been listening to some baroque, this afternoon.
Mostly Albinoni, Pacelbel and Vivaldi, BTW.
Cd Now gave me a nice bonus (USD 2) upon my 'Wish List' entries and there was a certain 'Vivaldi Album'...

:-)

Regards,

Jorge

No, no, no, not Vivaldi. You'll have me digging thru the boxes again......Baroque huh? I admit that I too seem to keep slipping into that mode. That would be an interesting discussion as to which period was the greatest.

Ok, here it is, the complete 18 Concerti for flute and string orchestra....hmmmmmm......this could take all afternoon, thanks a lot Jorge.
