... that every friggin' time I go away for a vacation or a long weekend, EVERYONE gets together on here for a party that I can't attend? I mean, Jesus effin' Christ. First, Bill gets to visit Binayak's fine collection in NY, and then the two of them do a shopping spree at a store that we here in Bubbaville can only dream of. Then everyone has a 'short', 'civil' discussion of the advantages of mono over stereo. Hell, I even missed Rob's birthday party. One of you guys must have sabotaged my EZ-lift, so it sends out a signal whenever it's in the Up position.

But to at least put some reasonable content in this post, Binayak's convinced me. I GOTTA GET THOSE BUSCH'S playing the late quartets. What's the best CD transfer of these? (Don't get me wrong - I enjoy listening to vinyl. It's just that I have two very good reasons for preferring CDs - one is 7 years old and the other will soon be 9, and it's next to impossible to find any decent LPs in this area anyway since, although there are over a million residents, most of them have moved here in the last 15 years, and of course they sold all of their bulky and heavy LPs before relocating, since nobody listens to vinyl anymore, right?)

Hi Dave.

My understanding is that most people that get mononucleosis are prone to getting it again, so...I'm sure we're not done with this topic :-)

ESPECIALLY, since Amazon now owes me lotsa mono stuff that I ordered in the heat of the moment. Speaking of which...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000IMEP/qid=956580723/sr=1-5/102-2079645-7917632

I just ordered this. I have several Pearl reissues, they're one of the best at not "reducing the music while improving the sound". It's a VERY recent remaster, so my hopes are high.

Regards

SE gives excellent advice. Before I got my hands on the Late Quartet Busch LP box just a few weeks ago after long waiting, my sole source of this musical manna was 3 cds issued by Arkadia, a small italian operation, and the sound was far from perfect. Now, Pearl, a very eminent label, has come out with this wonderful box. Go grab it!

Well, everyone left this town, during this weekend.
There's a public holiday on April 25 (the end of the 1926-1974 dictatorship) and, together with Easter (public holiday on Friday), nobody works!
We've chosen staying on Lisbon, during Easter. The weather is bad and so is the traffic.
It's being a nice holiday week. Bought some wine...
As posted before, found an interesting CD at the supermarket. Had to ask the desk to confirm the price, the scanners didn't help. It was well market, at USD 2 (!). It's a Brahms 4th symphony, conducted by Sergiu Celibidache. The (Italian) orchestra isn't known, but it's a rare performance. I'm sure the price was wrong :-)
Giving the huge price of EMI CDs of Celibidache, I couldn't avoid it.
It made me listen to Brahms 1st, 2nd & 3rd (Walter/Columbia - 'SBM' remastered Sony), several Wagner works (also Walter/Columbia - 'SBM' remastered Sony), Lalo's 'Symphonie Espagnole' (Barenboim - DG), Debussy's 'La Mer' (Karajan - DG), several Richard Straus works (Bohm and Karajan - DG) and Patricia Barber's 'Cafe Blue'.
Today I had to go shopping again. Bought coffee and a fish for my kid's aquarium.
I've been browsing the asylum and seems everybody left it too.
Now I'm spinning some baroque on vinyl. Albinoni, Pachelbel and Vivaldi...
Hope it doesn't rain. I'm leaving for a walk.

'Till later!

Regards,

Jorge

My birthday party was even missed by myself, so don't worry. You're right about the Busch Quartet, Binayak also made me order them. The best news this weekend was that Music and Arts arrived at my record dealer with a fresh Bruckner 7 under Van Beinum. I'm ready now, I've got every single recording with Van Beinum.

What a relief. Wish I had a beer.....

bn.com had the Busch LQ in stock, and with a $10 coupon they were only $24 shipped! So it's a race between them, BRUNO's Mahler 1&2, and Oistrakh/Rostropovich/Richter in Beethoven/Brahms. I hope they arrive at different times - otherwise I'll go insane trying to decide which to listen to first.
