I had a look yesterday at the only streaming service I use, Amazon Music, and a version by the Eastman Wind Ensemble with Jan Opalach was the sole offering. Also available on Youtube.

Very enjoyable.

This is one of my favorite performances, a staged production with Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz.

My most memorable was a concert at the SF Symphony with MTT and Patrick Stewart (Capt Picard of Star Trek) as narrator. He is a great speaker.

There's a nice Hungarian version. , posted on October 8, 2021 at 03:51:22

Budapest Chamber Orch. Conducted by Andras Mihaly. White Label. With Renard and Ragtime.

Pretty rare CD I expect. It is on YT though.

There are older LP versions conducted by Stokowski and Markevitch that are worth hearing. There is also a recording narrated/acted by Sting, Vanessa Redgrave, and Ian McKellan, and beautifully conducted by Kent Nagano. Sound quality is excellent!

I have that Markevitch recording - it's in French (Jean Cocteau) of course, posted on October 8, 2021 at 10:53:57

Originally on Philips, this Decca version seems to be the latest incarnation of it (maybe in an improved remaster?):

Just released on QOBUZ with a differing cover from the original Phillips release.

Interesting - I've never seen that cover before [nt], posted on October 10, 2021 at 01:31:50

"Released by Universal Music Australia Pty. Ltd. on January 1, 1963"

Certainly not released in digital in 1963!

Is it released in the US version of QOBUZ? Sound is GREAT for 1963.

Yes - US Qobuz has that incarnation too - as a "new" release, posted on October 10, 2021 at 10:00:39

So it looks as if THAT one is the newest now. I agree that this is a great sounding recording, even on the earlier incarnation I have. (And I don't even understand French!)

I also had it on a nice reel to reel tape but realized that one listen to the French dialogue was enough for me. Then again, I feel the same way about the English dialogue. Love the work as an orchestral piece, though -:)

Of course it is a reissue, but somehow Qobuz have put it in their Grand Selection (new releases) section, instead of the Still Trending (reissues) section.

Qobuz have added many reissued Markevitch albums in the last few months, which come out of two Markevitch box sets from Australia -- the DG and Philips legacies.

Actually, I already had most of those DG and Philips legacy sets. . . , posted on October 14, 2021 at 01:08:35

. . . on earlier individual issues. I decided not to get the two new boxed collections, even though they might feature a number of improved remasterings. I can always check them out on Qobuz however. I love Markevitch's Berlioz Damnation of Faust and Beethoven Eroica (the latter a mono recording with the Symphony of the Air), among many other fine recordings that he made.
