A soldier breaks up the monotony of guarding the Library of Congress by singing.

Must be heard to be believed.

Thank you for posting this. A reminder, in very troubled times, of the possibilities for transcendence and redemption. Possibilities that are there... but only if you are willing to pay the price.

These times make me think of the English Civil War, as well as our own civil war. This song was known in the Civil War era as the "Libby Prison" song, for the notoriously beastly Confederate prisoner-of-war prison. That such a talented young man has to stand watch to protect the legacy of human creativity from murderous mobs. A pity and a disgrace.

And if anyone has any problem with that, let me address you personally: Which Jesus do you think it is that you are going to meet one day? Not the pious Jew of the New Testament, to be sure. Not when certain insurrectionists were wearing T-Shirts mocking the Holocaust.

And I say to one and all, if anyone anywhere has a problem with that, please ghost me.

This Jesus?

But is a lightening sword better than a laser sword? ;-)

No, they are going to meet the Son of God who saved a woman from stoning, and who will be mightily pissed off that a murderous mob of white trash (anyone who believes in White Supremacy, IMHO, must have grown up on the Dark Side of the Moon, and therefore has never met any actual white people) who murdered a policeman who was doing his duty.

This is a defining moment in American culture, and I have Zero Tolerance for those who want to re-litigate the outcome of the Battle of Gettysburg--and therefore also, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Reconstruction Amendments.

If any Representatives gave Insurrectionists "Scouting Tours," I want them tried for Treason.

I have a certain punishment in mind, but... this is a family-friendly forum.

Forget the "likes." If only we had a Shostakovich to write some damn decent symphonies to memorialize recent , posted on February 4, 2021 at 19:17:42

Scary thing is "white trash" was in the great minority. Lots of professional folks in the gathering: Republicans aren't all porch-sitting, banjo strumming, rotten-toothed hillbillies. Remember the McCloskey's of St. Louis, the attorney couple that, armed with an assault rifle and a pistol, bravely confronted and menaced a group of peaceful protesters walking in front of their home. (and were pardoned by the Inciter-in-Chief).
