Remember those days when people got out in the world? ( not referring to Covid) When they went to audio stores to browse the latest vinyl releases and paused to listen in private booths? Doesn't this look like fun to you streamers and downloaders who lead your lonely existences in small dark rooms barely moving a muscle as you decide which button to press for your next symphony?

Thanks a lot for posting this. I enjoyed it immensely. I love the classical-music critic: "Comparisons are odious but inevitable..."! (4:01) And the group of people trying to fit into the stereo sweet spot at the end. Good stuff.

Hey, I **totally** get it. I made my first vinyl run to SF Bay area the week I got my driver's license. , posted on May 28, 2020 at 15:48:02
Nothing was more exciting that trying to locate all those record stores using pubic pay phones, asking gas station attendants, and then trying to find parking. And restrooms that didn't require that you buy a damn bagel first.

To mangle Chaucer, (or Cervantes?): the best part about acquiring vinyl is/was "mounting" the stairs. All about the journey.

Just look out for those pay phones. -nt, posted on May 28, 2020 at 18:09:02

(didn't want this in the subject line) is finding a restroom in the Bay Area.

There was one time I honestly thought I suffered internal damage. The Giants Victory Parade. No outhouses, lines miles long, women jumping ahead in line. What could I say?

When I first read your post, "when [people] went into audio stores to browse the latest vinyl releases. . . ", I was about to reply, "you talking about the 70's?" ;-)

As for us streamers and downloaders, you make a good point that we DO need to get our butts moving every now and then, in view of all the comfort and relaxation we've accumulated in our worry-free listening sessions!

And BTW, speaking of worry, I noted with interest the recent thread on the Vinyl Asylum here about the downward revision of the estimate (based on microscopic examinations) of how long a diamond stylus should last before it starts developing flat areas and damaging your grooves - what's it down to now? Did I read a mere 125 hours? And some of those replacement styli can cost as much as $4,000 a pop (no pun intended!)? Oh dear - sounds like a hobby for the likes of Jeff Sleazos! ;-)

You might want to check their modifier. -nt, posted on May 28, 2020 at 19:09:32

don't miss driving, parking, same with CD store.
I've heard music on the Radio I liked, 10 minutes later, I have my own copy.
I've bought CDs and LPs too, but of course you have to wait a bit.
Many times I went to stores only to not find anything I wanted.
That was OK up to a point, but anymore, I order from home, have it delivered, either by Download or by Mail.
Saves money, wear and tear, both for my car and for me!
I certainly remember Phono Booths, but that was in my high school days.
No, I don't miss it or them.
Lot of music Not available on LP or even CD/SACD.
Got to keep my options open.

Something tells me you probably don't miss these either..., posted on May 29, 2020 at 08:09:39

I never cared if there was a homeless person sitting in a doorless stall next to me reading the WSJ.
