. . . is very explicit in this performance. It's not the only way to conduct the work effectively, but it's very satisfying!

I'm always struck by how much better a work Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole is than Debussy's similar work, Iberia - which is so fragmented sounding in comparison. IMHO, Ravel truly wins the battle of structure and focus here!

a little and I agree with you about Iberia. I've read before that Ravel is considered by many scholars to be the greatest orchestrator ever... I don't have enough musical composition knowledge to agree or disagree, I only know that there is something inherent in his music that I find so very pleasing on many levels...
