While buying my latest Rach CD, (0 to 60 in 3.9 Sec) I pranced over to the DVD section of the store while thinking it would be a fun change to not only listen to some classical music but watch it from the comfort of my butt imprinted couch too. I could crinkle candy wrappers, cough loudly, talk, belch, boo and hiss the conductor, and even stop the orchestra when I needed to hit the can, in other words, I can be Rob at a performance that pisses him off. So I start wading through the musical offerings in the classical section, noticing that not only were the pickings quite slim, but these things ain't Naxos priced either. The latest movies, which cost tens of millions to make, were going for $19 to $24. A classical performance DVD, which probably cost $19.95 to film, and a 1977 performance to boot, was $30. Why? Should I just automatically poke a hook through the inside of my cheek when I look at these things from now on? Why are these things so much more expensive then movies? Could it be because they don't figure on selling many so they want to recover their production costs and turn a profit from the DVD I buy? Thank God I didn't see much of anything that interested me, except for a Bruckner 8 with Mehta performed in '77. Before I throw this DVD in the cart next to the jar of tartar sauce and the couple of lemons that I'll douse on myself for being a big enough fish to actually buy this thing, I'd like to find out if anyone is familiar with this performance. If not, I'll pass, and flap my gills over to the fun side of the section and buy the DVD edition of all the episodes of Fawlty Towers.

Thanks,
John

John, I'm sure a Bruckner 8 under Mehta is extremely funny, but I'd go for Fawlty Towers for a laugh.

I know notink,

all right, John, put it down. you heard me, put the damn thing down, and back away, back very slowly away. try to remember the following: Mehta = bad; Mehta = bad. (unless he's doing Holst or Star Wars). the mistake you were about to make gives me chills.
just remember, the evil that men do live after them.

OK, I will, but I don't think that's out on DVD yet Patrick. Will Alien 3 work in it's place?

Warnings heeded,
