The blue sheathed Modwright "Truth" umbilical to connect Modright modified players to their PS9.0 or PS9.9 power supply is a very good, very musical cable. But I found it to have a slight metallic coloration that bothered me particularly with piano notes. So I looked for alternatives. First I asked Bob Grost of Cerious Technologies to make me an umbilical out of his new Graphene Extreme cable, which he did. This custom made cable is both more resolving and more organic sounding (i.e., no metallic coloration) than the "Truth" cable, but a little on the "polite" side. On balance I prefer it to the "Truth" cable. Later, after learning from someone on the Audiogon forum that Audio Magic offered an umbiical made from their "Liquid Air" cable I asked them to make me an Illusion Liquid Air umbiical. Right out of the box, with no break-in this cable easily bested both the "Truth" and Graphene umbilicals. It is more dynamic, more articulate, and provides greater image depth and layering. And in my system there is no electronic signature nor any hint of electronic coloration. It makes my Modwright Sony 5400ES sound like high end analogue. In fairness it is twice the price of the Modwright and Cerious cables, but worth every penny and then some. I think that most people would be happy with the "Truth" cable. With solid state amplification or an otherwise bright system, the Cerious umbilical would be the better choice. The Illusion Liquid Air umbilical is on a whole different level - highly recommended for Modwright power suppies!
