Since it's almost dangerous to ask this on either the Naim or Harbeth forums,
I thought I'd ask here. What's a good, reasonable cost (~$500) cable for this combo? One that accentuates the wonderful midrange of the Harbeths?

On the Naim forum, it's all NACA (which is fine), on the Harbeth forum, you
risk being attacked personally by Alan Shaw. They are insistent it "does not matter" Which I know is not true.

Any experience? Would Chord sound good?

...a cost nothing preview..... Get in touch with Paul and Clear Day Cables. He'll send you a review sample and see if you like it. It really works well in my system...

Very nice sounding speaker cables for the dollar, and you can audition for free to see if you agree.

It is my understanding that Niam, like a few other British amplifier manufactures, does not put a Zobel network in the output stage of the amplifier, due to the belief that it degrades the sound. This necessitates the use of high inductance, spaced conductors (see link). If you use a high capacitance cable, like quite a few audiophile cables are, you would likely damage the amp. Repairs on Niam amps are not cheap. So the cable doesn't have to be a Niam cable, but it needs to be high inductance. Of course you could put a Zobel network on a regular audiophile cable, but you would have to research what values would be appropriate. Does anybody know?

That's my understanding also. And I believe if you don't use their cable you risk your warranty if there are problems.

Call Paul at Clear Day Cables and he will suggest which design would work best to audition for your speakers. Clear Days have replaced much more expensive speaker cables in my system. They are highly musical, accurate, and transparent and give me a high level of emotional connection to the performance.

The need for inductance/NACA is just for old Naim amps. The new ones can use any speaker cable.

I believe you are correct about the warranty too.

You might consider Oyaide Across 2000 stranded OCC copper parallel speaker cable, terminated with high-performance speaker cable connectors. I chose it for the presentation of a second system that I wanted to sound a bit more like the subjectively-warmish "British Sound", with moderate-capacitance (24.7 PF/m) parallel lay speaker cable. The Across 2000 design is innovative and unusual, with a midrange characteristic that is very open sounding, with palpable midrange presence, IME. The downside is it's a stiff cable to run within a system.
