Currently trying WE 16GA speaker cables in a double run on my Magnepan 3.7s. Not sure which Western Electric cables to use on my Magnepan Tympani IIIa bass panels. Choices would be a double or triple run of the WE 16GA cables or the WE 10GA cables. Apparently the 16GA and 10GA cables are similarly constructed with the 16GA having 26 strands while the 10GA has 104. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Joe Fagan

I use a single run of 16 Ga and I have the 14 GA here not tried.
I know you don't want to cut the stuff since you cannot get it too easily anymore.
Depends on your system, taste and synergy. Ya just have to try it.
The 16Ga is very good for sure. I may double it up to try.

Similar sonic signature in all flavors.
I use a bi-wired pair consisting of two separate star-quad connected, twisted runs to each speaker, one quad run using 4, WE16 wires to the MF/HF posts and one quad run using 4, WE14 wires to the LF posts of each speaker. They sound very nice, but so do twisted pairs of WE10, which I also have here.
I have not tried a twisted quad of WE10 as speaker cable but, a twisted or braided quad of WE10 makes a very good sounding PC.
Good luck.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I don't have enough WE16GA for such an elaborate cable arrangement. However, you have answered my question about suitability of other WE cables and that twisting them works well. I will probably just use a shotgun arrangement for my Magnepans and Tympanis until I can find some more cable. Thanks again Joe Fagan

Thanks for your response. You are correct that WE16 has become difficult to find these days. Thus far I have compared a single and a double run of the WE16 with my Magnepan 3.7s driven by Bryston 7BST and found that I preferred the double run but not by a large margin. What I did notice was that the WE16 does reduce the highs on the Magnepan ribbons. This was noticable by listening but also by removing the attenuating 1.6 ohm resistor that I had been using on the ribbon with the XLO Type 5 cable and finding that I didn't need it anymore. I have moved the 7BSTs to just behind the Magnepans so I can use short lengths of the WE16 as that seems to be the easiest to find on eBay. For my system the WE16 cable took around 100 hours of playing time before I began to appreciate the sound. For the present I am going to keep the WE16, and try to get some more so that I can replace the XLO cable on my Tympani Bass Panels. For the Tympanis I will try to get at least a double run. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experiences with the WE16. Joe Fagan
