Going barewire on speaker cables. Thinking about lining with tin or silver solder. Seeking feedback on coating that will impart it's sonic character on the cable as little as possible. Thanks.

I strongly recommend that the bare wire strands not be tinned with solder, since the solder will create a surface barrier with poor conductivity vs. bare copper. Solder works fine when it's used to create a proper solder joint, but it's a poor material for surface conduction.

Oxidized copper is considered to be a poor dielectric. Tempco solderable magnet wire is good sounding copper solid wire. Silver oxide is said to be a good conductor. Tweaker

Thanks everyone.

Sorry...my mistake...I didn't mention that it's just the stripped ends that I intend to treat. Still not a good idea probably?

If yu are using stranded wire, tinning the vary tips will keep the stranded wire from unraveling. plus, posted on April 10, 2016 at 16:28:32
You can touch the tips without causing the copper to tarnish. bare minumum solder, no clump on the end..
You do not want to ever touch bare copper with your skin. The oils in skin will cause the copper to tarnish.
If you really are using bare copper (with no insulation at all.. Covering the wires with a cotton sheath is the best choice to keep the wires from contacting surfaces or each other.
